Post Event Update:

We greatly appreciate your support of HEB ISD Operation Back-2-School.  The district identified and invited 6,700 students to participate this year.  4,045 responded to the invitation and the majority of those were present at one of our two locations on Saturday.

Across the East and West locations, there were approximately:

3,500 Students Served
800 Volunteers
58 Social Service Providers
40 Corporate Sponsors
200 Individual Sponsors
40 Churches Represented

HEB ISD Operation Back to School is working with a coalition of churches, social services, school and civic agencies collaborating with the "for-profit community" to assist elementary children in starting the school year off right! Our goal is to supply up to 6,700 children, grades Pre K-6, a new backpack and school supplies. Statistics show that over 56% of HEB ISD elementary students come from homes that are classified "economically challenged." And, the district has identified 876 children who are classified as "homeless children." 

Update:  This year, 4,045 out of the 6,700 students (the number of economically disadvantaged elementary students in the HEB ISD) have indicated interest in participating.  That is more than the number of students we helped with backpacks and school supplies in the past two years combined!

Investing in the education of those at or below the poverty level helps improve the quality of life for our community.

It's about fun! Starting school ought to be a fun, exciting time, not a time of stress. We want every family to participate in this special event on August 20! We'll have lots of fun activities!

HEB ISD Operation Back to School is scheduled for August 20, 2011, 9:00 am - 3:00 pm.
Participants will be invited to the location nearest to their schools.

This day is not only about tools (school supplies) but about support. We will have many agencies available for these families in our Social Services Fair.  Our goal is to make sure the family has the available resources it may need throughout the school year.
