Smith Lawn & Tree – “Can we help in any way?”
During a sermon in Fall 2011, I was challenged to think of how I can make a difference in peoples lives with what I do. I was sitting there thinking, “I own a landscape business. There is nothing I can do to minister to others or help those in need.”
After praying, I called Dianne and Wes Higdon, Directors of CPR, and asked, “Can we help in any way?” They invited me to come meet with them. Come to find out, the landscaper they had partnered with in the past was no longer able.
This solidified that what was happening was truly a “God Thing” for me. Three weeks prior to the 2011 CPR Fall Blitz, 6 Stones was in desperate need for a landscape contractor to help with labor, design, plant material, mulch and so on. At this point I was freaked out. I had given Wes and Dianne my word that I would get items donated, that my employees would volunteer, that this whole thing would pan out in such a short amount of time.
Then, things started happening. All of the plant material was donated by Southwest Wholesale Nursery in Carrollton, TX. We had more than 25 volunteers from Smith Lawn and Tree get involved. I saw God answer prayers and I saw Him at work in this ministry.
6 Stones is such a great way to reach those in need, not only by helping with home repairs or backpacks for students, but by providing a way for those that have never been to church or never heard a prayer get involved and be changed. These events are not only a ministry to those that are being served, but also to those that are serving.
It has truly been a blessing to be a part of 6 Stones.
