Last spring, Detective Todd Murphree approached us with a burden on his heart: he requested our help in bringing hope back to a neglected part of our community. To address this need, we embarked upon the Hwy 10 Intitiative – a concentrated effort aimed at creating connections with the residents along Hwy 10. In June 2012, this campaign began in earnest with Dalton, Kenny, David, and a mission crew from NEXT WorldWide going on foot through the apartment complexes and making connections.  When walking in Hillside Village apartments, Felix Woods approached Kenny with a servant’s heart. Kenny told Felix about the events in Carr Park that 6 Stones was holding for the community, and immediately Felix said he would man the grill. Felix went on to recruit his son, Javier, and John Moody—other residents from the Hillside Village community.

We met a member of CityLife church at our Carr Park event, Lee Simons, with the same passion—a servant’s heart and a love to cook. Lee owns Brother’s Meat Company and immediately became a sponsor and super-volunteer with 6 Stones Community Ministries. Lee’s crew—Felix, John and Javier —became Cooks for Christ, our official volunteer grill crew. These gentlemen have graciously volunteered at nearly a dozen of our events. They are so dedicated that we printed their very own “Cooks for Christ” shirts. We appreciate the amazing hearts and service of these exemplary individuals!
